Amy Welsh, B.Sc., D.Ch., Podiatrist
Amy is from Bayfield, Ontario, a rural area approximately three hours west of Toronto. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton before studying Podiatric Medicine at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences in Toronto.
Amy’s clinical experience includes high-risk foot care and wound care at the Ottawa Rehabilitation Centre, and full scope private practice in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Waterloo, Ontario.
In 2017, Amy moved to Cape Breton and took over Podiatric Care Ltd, formerly owned by Raylene Mackwood. Keystone Podiatry continues to be the only Podiatry office in Cape Breton, and looks forward to serving your foot care needs!
Shawn Prosser, B.A. Kin, D.Ch., Podiatrist
Shawn graduated from the Michener Institute in 2015, after completing a Kinesiology degree at the University of Western Ontario. Shawn always had a keen interest in working in healthcare often contemplating physiotherapy, nursing and medical school. Shawn eventually found his calling as a Chiropodist. He found the profession appealing as it has such a broad scope of practice, dealing with diabetics, athletic injuries, wound care, biomechanical assessments as well as minor surgical procedures.
Shawn’s clinical experience includes both working with a family health team in Cobourg ON, as well as multiple private practices in Oshawa, Whitby and Ajax ON. He has taken a keen interest in biomechanical assessments and gait analysis utilizing traditional Root theory as well as soft tissue stress theory to develop appropriate orthotics for all his patients. In addition to that, Shawn thoroughly enjoys seeing his diabetic patients on a regular basis to further emphasize the importance of appropriate foot health practices and help answer any questions they may have.
Marcus Matthews, B.Sc., RCPod, Podiatrist
Marcus graduated from the University of Brighton where he studied to become a podiatrist. He has an impressive resume of continuing education courses in addition to his degree in podiatry. He has worked within the National Health Service (NHS) system in the United Kingdom (UK) as well as in private practice and nursing home settings. His research has been published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle in May of 2020.
Marcus has been a mentor to many University students studying to become podiatrists. He is patient centered in his care and strives to provide optimal results. Marcus follows in his grandfather’s footsteps who was also a dedicated podiatrist.
